I joined a November group focused on gratitude and nature. We hiked on Sunday, a crisp, cold day here in Ohio. It was my first hike on uneven ground with hills post surgery and I was exhilarated to do it. This trail has a tunnel of Osage Orange trees. I stopped midway through to just breathe it all in. So grateful to have Vitamin N as my best supplement. And gratitude? Just enhances everything.
Oh, what a wonderful hike that must have been! Congratulations on recovering and being able to hike and take in the joy and wonder of a good dose of Vitamin N. I love that you have a group focused on gratitude and nature there. Rock on!
I have been thinking about that particular podcast episode of Priscilla's for months, and it is still resonating for me. I've was fortunate to be able to read one Priscilla's books in advance and write a blurb for it, and I found myself stretching and growing in that process--such a gift.
Thank you for this thoughtful post, Susan. I also believe that our awe when facing the beauty of nature helps us be more open, more fulfilled, and ultimately more concerned and linked to nature and wild beings. I am thankful that my family helped me develop such a view of the world that focuses on that awesome world itself.
How wonderful that your family gave you that broad view of the natural world and that intimate connection! I was fortunate to have a family who taught my about natural history and got me outside, so like you, my roots in the more-than-human world go deep. That's a beautiful gift, I think. Blessings!
Nature and gratitude -- you're speaking my love language, Susan. And so beautifully, too. Thank you for a lovely morning read.
Thank you for reading the post and for such a beautiful compliment, Stephanie! You lifted my morning.
Stunning, I especially liked the poem at the start, such a beautiful image, thank you.
Thank you! That's my photo from my dawn walk along the ridge above where I live, and the haiku is mine too. Blessings!
Awe....not to be confused with “awesome”...originally a good word but in today’s use it qualifies as vocabulary deficiency.
Sadly true. Whenever I use awesome, Sally, I say "in the original meaning." That usually makes people think!

Yes! And thanks for noting the wonderful work Priscilla is doing too!

Oh yes! I love her books and all her writing.
Me too. :)
Beautiful!
Thank you, Alicia!
Grateful for your writing! Hope you have a wonder-ful day. Keep being awe-some!
Blessings and the same wishes to you!
Birds are my faithful directors towards awe, and to them I'm most grateful 🪶
And your writings on birds magnify that awe for all of us. For that I am grateful!
