I am answering your call, dear Susan, and will be mindfully practicing terraphilia going forward. Thank you for that beautiful poem. And thank you for your inspiration.

I think that if there is hope for our species we must let go of our hubris and reconnect with the natural world. You are on the right mission in my opinion. I will try my best to further this.

Yesterday, Rebecca and I drove to the area of La Conner, Washington. It was a somewhat cold (40s) day, but partly sunny and lacking in wind. Fir Island was at very low tide (the last time we were there a king tide dominated the landscape.) Hundreds of Mallards, American Wigeons and other ducks were present, but the whole area was also dominated by dozens of Bald Eagles and Trumpeter Swans, two species that were threatened when I was much younger. There were over a dozen Eagles in one tree! So there is hope, but it will be rough going for quite some time.

Thanks for the beautiful poem.

Thank you for your thoughts and actions of support, David. Your trip to La Conner with Rebecca sounds beautiful, despite the cold. (It was minus 2 degrees F here this morning, so 40s sounds warm to me, but I know it's not there!) And what a joy to see the flocks of wintering ducks, plus the Bald Eagles and Trumpeter Swans. We can help restore this earth, and it's not going to be easy especially now, but it's important to take the long view. As in everything, really....

I just subscribed. Thank you dear Susan for beautifully reminding us with your words and photos of nature's wisdom, lessons and the interconnectedness of all things. Truths that remain when all this other noise passes away....as it will.

Thank you for your support, Deborah! That means so much. And yes to this: "Truths [nature's wisdom, lessons and the interconnectedness of all things] that remain when all this other noise passes away... as it will." Amen.

And blessings back to you, Susan, with a bow of thanks for this beautiful call to action. Because love and care IS action. So is poetry. So is terraphilia. Thank you so much for the constant inspiration you provide, my friend. I have two responses to your call so far: I decided earlier today that every e-mail I send from now on will be signed "Love and care, Jeanne." Even if it's a business e-mail or going to someone I don't know. My second action is that I'm going to practice metta (lovingkindness) meditation every single day of this administration. How many days is that? (Excuse me for a second while I click over to my online calculator. I'm no good at math and need assistance.) That is 1,460 days. Here I go! I admit I didn't start yesterday (in shock), but today is Day #1 of 1,460.

"Love and care IS action. So is poetry. So is terraphilia." Thank you for those wise words, Jeanne. And yes to your new email closing phrase! I sign mine "blessings" for the same reason. It's an action of love and care. Plus your metta meditation, a wonderful way to spread the light and love. BTW, I almost used 1,460 days in the title of this post, but decided to not freak anyone out. So here's to Day #1 of 1,460 days of flooding the world with light & love! Together, we can do this.

Yes, Susan. I have been thinking about restarting my blog again. I won't be able to do it as often as you do Terraphilia, but I think the times call for this. I am looking for ways to promote love and positive energy. As a writer, this seems one of the best ways. I would like to find an approach to reach more people than my website. If you have any suggestions, please let me know. Many thanks.

Thanks for joining us, Phyllis. Promoting love and positive energy as a writer is a wonderful act of terraphilia. If you don't feel like your website is reaching widely enough, how about posting a very short snipped on social media regularly? Just a paragraph, perhaps, a suggestion from a therapist (you) about how to do just that. Or a moment from your day that made you feel positive or something you did to promote lovingkindness. A photo of your dog doing something funny with a comment. People have a hunger for positive content, and it's a wonderful way to use social media. I'm on Instagram and FB for that reason, not because I approve of Meta. But it's possible to use the platform in positive ways. I don't go to the newsfeed at all. Or use Notes here on Substack. I hope those ideas are helpful! Blessings.

Thank you, Susan. I was thinking using FB, as I have many more "friends" than I used to have. I stopped using Instagram a long time ago, but I still have an account.

Thank you Susan! I’ve been struggling with what to SAY on social media, so I’ve been mostly silent. Your framing it this way makes me see this is something I can easily do, so I will. Thank you for your light and love!

Carolyn, I am glad to be helpful! I think that anything positive we can do is critical in these days when so many seem frozen by the speed of the retrogressive actions. Blessings and a warm hug to you as you practice your terraphilia and spread the light and love you have in abundance.
